Conner Buraszeski, a Family Nurse Practitioner student in 黑料网's Master of Science in Nursing program, has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Doing Right Spotlight Scholarship presented by Principle Business Enterprises. Conner maintains a 3.931 cumulative GPA and is expected to graduate in 2026.
For Conner, community service is about more than providing care. It is about empowering people with the knowledge, resources, and confidence they need to take control of their health and improve their quality of life.
As a critical care nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner student, Conner has witnessed firsthand the devastating impact chronic diseases can have when individuals lack access to preventive care, education, and consistent healthcare resources. Those experiences inspired him to volunteer with the University of Toledo CommunityCare Clinics, which provide free healthcare services to underserved individuals throughout the Greater Toledo area.
At the clinic, Conner focuses much of his time on diabetes education, helping patients better understand their diagnosis and develop practical strategies for managing their health. Many of the individuals served by the clinic face significant barriers to care, including financial hardship, transportation challenges, limited insurance coverage, and low health literacy.
Rather than simply providing information, Conner works one-on-one with patients to explain the "why" behind their condition. He helps patients understand blood glucose monitoring, medication management, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications in ways that are realistic and accessible.
Many patients tell him that no one has ever taken the time to fully explain their diagnosis or treatment plan.
The results can be life-changing.
Through education and ongoing support, Conner has seen patients return with improved A1c levels, more consistent blood sugar monitoring, and increased confidence in managing their condition. Small changes such as reducing sugary beverages, improving nutrition habits, or increasing daily activity often lead to meaningful improvements in long-term health outcomes.
"Healthcare is not a privilege reserved for those with resources, but a fundamental component of human dignity," Conner shared in his scholarship application.
His passion for service stems from years of experience caring for critically ill patients. Working in intensive care settings exposed him to the downstream effects of untreated chronic conditions and the systemic barriers many patients face. Rather than accepting those realities, Conner became committed to helping prevent illness before it reaches a crisis point.
Through the CommunityCare Clinics, he collaborates with medical, pharmacy, nursing, and administrative volunteers to address both healthcare needs and the social factors that influence health outcomes. This team-based approach helps patients access financial assistance, specialty referrals, medications, and additional resources that support long-term wellness.
Looking ahead, Conner hopes to create a healthcare model that emphasizes prevention, education, and patient empowerment. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, he plans to develop innovative programs that integrate chronic disease management, lifestyle medicine, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve outcomes for aging and underserved populations.
He is particularly passionate about advancing health literacy, expanding access to preventive care, and creating programs that support healthy aging through strength training, fall prevention, cognitive health awareness, and cardiovascular risk reduction.
By combining clinical expertise, compassion, and a commitment to health equity, Conner is helping create a future where more individuals have access to the tools and support needed to live healthier lives.
The scholarship will support Conner as he completes his advanced nursing education and continues his mission of improving healthcare access and outcomes throughout the community.
